What is the Santo Daime?

The Santo Daime is a plant medicine path that came out of the indigenous Ayahuasca traditions of the Peruvian and Brazilian Amazon basin. It is a sacramental tea made from two plants, a leaf and a vine, that facilitates deeper self-knowledge, multi-leveled healing, transformation of consciousness, and a connection to the Divine, whatever that means to you, and in whatever language you use to describe it.

The Daime tradition was founded by Raimundo Irineu Serra, later known as Mestre Irineu, or Master Irineu, a rubber tapper and border guard in the Northeast of Brazil, as well as a member of the spiritist tradition in Brazil. Through inner experience with the tea, and Divine revelation in the Forest, he received and developed the forms and rituals that are now the foundation of the work that is done all over the world.

Additionally, the Daime religion is recognized by the United States government and is legal in the State of Oregon, and the importation and consumption of the Daime tea itself fall under this legal protection.

Beyond the Amazon Basin~

The Daime now exists all over the world in different communities, and in varying expressions, that have spread and grown from that first small group in Acre with Mestre Raimundo Irineu Serra.
